How DeepSides works
The short version: rate the records you love, all the way down to the deep cuts.
Rating albums and songs
Rate any album, song, remix or music video from half a star to five stars, and add a review if you like.
On an album page you can also rate every track, including bonus tracks, B-sides and demos (tucked into dropdowns under the main tracklist).
A track’s community average appears once you’ve rated it, so you form your own opinion first.
Favorites and “haven’t heard it yet”
♡ marks your favorite song on an album, one per album.
Haven’t heard a song yet? On a computer, click the headphones next to it. On a phone, tap its stars and choose “Haven’t heard it yet”. It goes on your To listen list (in your account menu), and comes off as soon as you rate it.
Discography runs and Completist badges
Rate an artist’s studio albums and you’re on a discography run. Your progress shows on the artist page and your home page.
Rate every studio album and you earn that artist’s Completist badge. EPs, live albums, compilations and remix albums don’t count toward it.
When a new studio album comes out, your badge shows an expiry date: rate the new album within 30 days to keep it. If an older album gets added to the catalog, the badge comes off until you’ve rated that one too. Either way, rating it earns the badge back.
Album of the Day
Every day there’s one album on the home page for everyone to listen to and rate. It’s usually the album people reviewed most over the past week (or one the DeepSides team picked), and it changes at midnight Eastern time.
Long reads
Long reads are in-depth album reviews: a title and a few real paragraphs. The DeepSides team writes them, and listeners can too once they reach four milestones: 25 written reviews, 1 Completist badge, 10 thumbs up on their reviews, and 30 days on DeepSides.
Once you’re there, a “Write a Long read” button appears on album pages. The team reads every submission and either publishes it (on the home page and the album page), sends it back with a note, or passes on it. You’ll get a notification either way.
Adding music and requests
Can’t find something? Use Add to bring it in: search MusicBrainz and the cover, tracklist and date fill in for you.
Missing a track, a wrong tracklist, or a streaming link that should be there? Use the request button on the album page and a moderator will take a look.
Still stuck? Browse around, or ask a moderator through a request on any album.
